FutureBound is an action adventure desktop and mobile game about nurturing career interests and fighting self-doubt, developed as part of a research-oriented effort to improve college-going among underserved middle school students.

In FutureBound, players guide a student through the transition from middle school to high school, nurturing their interests and career ambitions in order to prepare them for the challenges of college and beyond. Each year the character has tasks that she must complete, people to talk to, and new parts of her school that she can explore. And each year she delves deeper into her passions and uses them to create new identities for herself.

Along the way, she faces challenges. While some of these challenges come from demands that are made of her, most of them come from within: doubts, insecurities, and fears. As she grows up, these challenges become more prevalent and more fearsome – but the passions, skills, and identities that she collects give her greater tools to combat and overcome them.

Mission: Admission is a Facebook game designed to help high school students understand the strategies and skills needed to apply to college. The game was launched in 2012. Play now on Facebook. For more information about the game, please leave your email address and we will contact you.

Application Crunch

Want to pursue your dreams at an art school? Want to be a campus sensation at a big state school? Want to work crazy hard for that full ride to a very selective private university? The choice is yours, and the path you take there is entirely up to you.

Application Crunch is a card game for 3-4 players. Each player takes on the role of a high school student and college applicant. Players juggle their time between academics, extracurricular activities, work, and service while competing for college applications and scholarships.

To win, players must get into college, save enough money to pay for tuition and other expenses, and build up the kind of character who can succeed in their chosen school.

Like a game, the college application process is a system with rules. Mastering a game takes practice, but, for most people, the college application process is a game we only get to play once.

The Collegeology Games project strives to create playful ways to understand the systems essential to accessing higher education. Collegeology Games provide a safe environment to learn and experiment with higher education strategies and choices before it really counts.
